What is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®)?

A CFP® is a Certified Financial Planner who is helping people make sure their money is likely to last until the Client's goals are met.  Certified Financial Planners can apply for their CFP® after achieving at least a bachelor's degree or its equivalent, in any discipline, from an accredited college or university.  S/he must master at least 72 topics on financial planning, and have at least 2 years of experience in financial planning, plus pass a two (2) day exam.  Also, to maintain their certification, license holders are also required to complete 30 hours of continuing education every 2 years.

What is a Fee-Only Financial Planner?

A Fee-Only Financial Planner is a financial advisor who is not receiving any commissions from banks or other financial institutions. Therefore, a fee-only financial advisor typically does not sell insurance or suggest a specific brokerage to their Clients.
