Expatriate Tax Return Preparation

If you are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien, your taxes may be complex. Fair Winds Tax & Financial, LLC is here to help. Expat taxes are what we do.
globe is on top of the usa flag

Your worldwide income is subject to U.S. income Tax, regardless of where you reside. Your income, filing status, and age generally determine whether you must file a US income Tax return. Generally, you must file a US Tax return (even if you do not owe any Taxes) if your gross income from worldwide sources is greater than your Standard Deduction. Just go to IRS.gov and search for 'Standard Deduction' to determine what yours is for the year that you intend to file Tax return(s) for.

You may be able to exclude up to a certain amount of your foreign earned income from US Taxation. You might also be able to exclude your housing allowance while living outside the US, along with getting special treatment(s) for certain income types under a Tax treaty between your residential country and the US. You might also be able to claim a Foreign Tax credit for income Taxes you paid in/to a foreign nation.

Even though Expatriate Tax returns contain many possible twists and turns under US Tax law, we can help you to file your Tax returns as well as answer any questions you may have.

The process for us:

  1. Call/text/send an e-mail message to make an appointment for a free consultation.  During this initial consultation, we assess your Tax situation.

  2. We will open a secure online folder after you give your e-mail address.

  3. You will upload your Tax-related documents and we will work on your Tax return(s), asking questions by e-mail/text message/phone.

  4. Before submitting any Tax return, we prefer to have a final meeting by FaceTime/Zoom.

  5. You will pay to us for your Tax return(s) and we will e-file, if allowable; you will get an e-mail message that your Tax return has been e-filed (if allowed to e-file).
